FAQ
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
CAN I START USING IT RIGHT AT 8 WEEKS, OR SHOULD I WAIT UNTIL LATER IN MY PREGNANCY?
You technically can detect a heartbeat as early as 8 weeks, but here's the honest truth: success at 8-9 weeks depends on three factors: your baby's position, anterior vs. posterior placenta placement, and your body composition. Many moms have the best experience starting at weeks 10–12, after their first ultrasound confirms everything is fine anyway. That said, if you're 8 weeks and have high anxiety, waiting 2–3 more weeks can feel impossible. That's why we recommend getting your doppler now but setting realistic expectations: your first "hearing" might happen at week 9-10 instead of 8. The Mom's Doppler Guide explains exactly what affects detection and how to maximize success.
WHAT IF I CAN'T FIND THE HEARTBEAT ON MY FIRST TRY? WILL I PANIC MORE?
This is the right question to ask and it's exactly why our OB-written guide exists. Unlike other dopplers that leave you searching blindly, our guide teaches you the anatomical landmarks, the correct angles, and the techniques that work. If you follow the guide and still don't find it on day one, here's what actually happens: you take a break, try again tomorrow, and 95% of moms find it within 24–48 hours. Is it frustrating? Sometimes. But it's not panic-inducing if you understand why you might not find it (baby's position, anterior placenta, timing of use). More importantly: if you've already had your first ultrasound and know baby is healthy, not finding the heartbeat immediately doesn't mean something is wrong, it just means you need another attempt. The Mom's Doppler Guide addresses this scenario specifically.
HOW OFTEN CAN I SAFELY USE THIS? WON'T CONSTANT USE HURT MY BABY?
Fetal dopplers use low-power ultrasound technology that's been clinically used in medical settings for over 40 years. The research is clear: the sound exposure from a home doppler is significantly lower than a medical ultrasound. Most OBs recommend limiting use to around 15 minutes per day. But here's the real answer: if you're using it compulsively (checking 5+ times daily for weeks), that's a sign of anxiety that might need other support, therapy, talking to your OB, or both. ZORYLE™ Heartbeat Wand should reduce your anxiety, not fuel obsessive checking. We recommend using it when you genuinely need reassurance, not as a constant habit. Think of it like this: a check-in 2–3 times per week, or when anxiety spikes, that's healthy. Daily for 15 minutes? Also fine. Checking every 2 hours? That's a signal to reach out to your care team about the underlying anxiety.
CAN I FIND OUT MY BABY'S GENDER WITH THIS DOPPLER?
No. ZORYLE™ Heartbeat Wand detects and plays the fetal heartbeat, that's all it does. You cannot see images, cannot measure fetal development, and absolutely cannot determine gender. A fetal doppler isn't an ultrasound machine. For gender determination, you need the anatomical ultrasound at 18–22 weeks where a trained technician can visualize your baby. This is actually a strength of ZORYLE™ Heartbeat Wand, not a weakness: because it does one thing (heartbeat detection), it does it extremely well. We're not competing with your ultrasound appointments, we're filling the gap between them.
I'M PLUS-SIZED. DOES THIS DOPPLER WORK FOR ALL BODY TYPES?
Yes and this matters because not all dopplers are honest about this. Larger body composition can affect detection because you have more tissue layers between the doppler probe and your baby. Here's what's true: ZORYLE™ Heartbeat Wand works for all body types, but your first-try success might take an extra attempt or two. This is where the Mom's Doppler Guide becomes invaluable, it specifically addresses body composition differences and gives you modified techniques. The good news? The included gel is thicker and more conductive than typical ultrasound gel, which significantly helps penetration. And the heartbeat signal, once found, is crystal clear regardless of body composition. Your body type doesn't disqualify you, it just means patience and the right technique.
WHAT SHOULD THE HEARTBEAT SOUND LIKE? HOW DO I KNOW I'M NOT JUST HEARING MY OWN HEARTBEAT?
This is one of the most important things the Mom's Doppler Guide teaches. A fetal heartbeat is distinctly different from yours. Your heartbeat is around 60–100 BPM (sounds like "lub-dub, lub-dub" slowly). Your baby's heartbeat is typically 110–160 BPM, it's much faster, sounds more like a galloping horse or a rapid "wub-wub-wub-wub." When you find it, you'll know. The difference is obvious and unmistakable. What you might initially hear: your own heartbeat, placental whooshing sounds, baby movement. The guide teaches you how to distinguish each one and where to position the probe to hear specifically the fetal heart. Most moms describe the moment of finding it as: "Oh my God, THAT'S the baby!", absolute clarity.
WHAT IF I HEAR A HEARTBEAT THAT SEEMS TOO FAST OR TOO SLOW? SHOULD I BE WORRIED?
First: fetal heart rates vary based on many factors, baby's activity level, time of day, even room temperature. The normal range is 110–160 BPM, but variation within that range isn't automatically alarming.
Second: ZORYLE™ Heartbeat Wand is not a diagnostic tool. It tells you if a heartbeat exists, it doesn't provide medical interpretation. If you're genuinely concerned about the heart rate, the solution isn't to panic based on doppler readings. The solution is: contact your OB and describe what you heard. They can order a proper monitoring session where trained professionals interpret the data. Use it as a reassurance tool, not a diagnostic device.
I HAVE GESTATIONAL DIABETES / HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE / OTHER COMPLICATIONS. CAN I STILL USE THIS?
Yes. Having a medical complication doesn't contraindicate doppler use. That said, if you have a high-risk pregnancy, your OB might already be monitoring you more closely, possibly with more frequent ultrasounds or monitoring sessions. ZORYLE™ doesn't interfere with that. What it does do: gives you reassurance between clinical appointments, which is especially valuable for high-risk moms who experience elevated anxiety. However, and this is important, if you have a complication requiring active monitoring, use ZORYLE™ Heartbeat Wand alongside your OB care, not as a substitute. Your complication needs professional oversight. The doppler is an emotional support tool that helps you feel more in control between your medical appointments, not a replacement for them. Many high-risk moms love ZORYLE™ precisely because it bridges that gap and reduces the anxiety of waiting.
HOW LONG DOES THE BATTERY LAST? ARE THERE ONGOING COSTS I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?
Battery: Typical usage means your device lasts 50–100 hours of listening time before needing a battery replacement, that's roughly 3–6 months of regular use for the average mom. When it does need replacing, it's a standard AA battery that costs $2–5. Much cheaper than an emergency ultrasound.
Ongoing costs: The only thing you might repurchase is the gel. We include a 1-month supply. After that, any ultrasound gel ($8–12 per bottle) lasts months. So your total cost: one doppler + optional gel refills, genuinely the lowest-cost medical-grade fetal monitoring option available. One emergency ultrasound costs more than a year's worth of doppler use and gel combined.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER PREGNANCY? CAN I USE THIS FOR ANYTHING ELSE OR IS IT JUST FOR PREGNANCY?
ZORYLE™ Heartbeat Wand is designed and calibrated specifically for fetal heartbeat detection during pregnancy. It's not useful as a general stethoscope or diagnostic tool after delivery. However, you own it forever thanks to the lifetime warranty. Many moms keep theirs as a keepsake, or pass it to sisters and friends during their pregnancies. The real value extends across pregnancies: if you have a second or third baby, that same doppler gets you through those pregnancies too, saving you $200+ per pregnancy. A one-time investment that spans your entire motherhood journey.
